Frequently Asked Questions

Your Pathology Questions Answered

Is there a pathology collection centre at Westside Medical Centre?

Yes. A Laverty Pathology collection centre operates on site at Westside Medical Centre, providing convenient access to blood tests and other pathology services for patients.

What are the opening hours for blood tests at Westside Medical Centre?

The on-site Laverty Pathology collection centre is open Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm, with the last blood collection at 3:00pm.

The clinic closes from 12:30pm to 1:00pm each day for staff lunch.

Do I need to fast before my blood test?

Most blood tests do not require fasting. However, some tests do have special preparation requirements. Your GP will let you know if fasting is needed and will provide any specific instructions for the tests they have ordered.

How long do pathology results take?

Most routine blood test results are returned within three working days. Your GP will review the results once they arrive and advise you if any follow-up is needed.

Some more specialised tests take around 7 working days.

Will my GP contact me about my test results?

If your test results need further discussion, your GP will ensure appropriate follow-up is arranged. If you already have an upcoming appointment, your doctor may mark it with a reminder to review the results.

If no appointment is booked, you may receive a HotDoc notification asking you to arrange a follow-up visit. In some situations, our nursing staff may phone you directly.

For stable or expected results, you may not receive a message every time. We encourage patients to call the clinic for their results rather than assuming that “no news is good news.”
