Frequently Asked Questions
Your Questions Answered
Do you have female doctors available for women’s health consultations at Westside Medical Centre?
Yes. All GPs at Westside Medical Centre can provide women’s health care, and if you prefer to see a female doctor, we have more than 10 female GPs available for women’s health consultations.
What is involved in a cervical screening test at Westside Medical Centre?
Cervical screening tests have replaced traditional Pap smears for most patients. For routine screening, low-risk patients can choose between a self-collected swab or a clinician-collected swab.
Self-collected swabs can be done privately at the clinic after receiving instructions from one of our nurses or GPs.
Can I get contraception or an Implanon implant at Westside Medical Centre?
Yes. The GPs at Westside Medical Centre can discuss all forms of contraception, including the oral contraceptive pill, the contraceptive implant (Implanon), and intra-uterine devices (IUDs).
All of our GPs can insert and remove Implanon implants. Some GPs are also trained to insert IUDs, and your GP can arrange referral to another doctor for IUD insertion if needed.
Do you provide menopause advice and management at Westside Medical Centre?
Yes. All GPs at Westside Medical Centre can provide menopause assessment and management. A comprehensive menopause assessment includes reviewing your menopausal status, symptoms, breast and cervical cancer screening needs, and bone health.
You can book a Menopause Health Assessment with your GP, who will create a personalised management plan and discuss treatment options, including menopause hormone therapy if appropriate.
Are pregnancy and antenatal visits available at Westside Medical Centre?
Yes. Westside Medical Centre provides care for patients who are planning a pregnancy, currently pregnant, or needing postnatal assessment. Several of our GPs are accredited to provide shared antenatal care in partnership with Port Macquarie Base Hospital.
