Sub‑Saharan Africa, South America, or Central America
Yellow Fever Immunisations
If you’re planning to travel to Sub‑Saharan Africa, South America, or Central America, you may require a yellow fever vaccination to protect your health and to meet entry requirements for your destination.
Westside Medical Centre in Port Macquarie is an Australian Government Accredited Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre, meaning we meet strict World Health Organisation (WHO) standards to provide this specialised service. Without valid yellow fever vaccination documentation, you may be denied entry at international borders or even prevented from boarding your flight.

Why Yellow Fever Immunisation Is Different
Unlike many other travel vaccines, the yellow fever vaccine can only be administered at an accredited centre. This ensures vaccines are stored, handled, and recorded according to strict international safety standards.
Certification You’ll Receive
After your appointment, you’ll be provided with an official International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP), confirming one of the following:
- Details of your yellow fever immunisation, OR
- A medical exemption outlining why you cannot be immunised
This certificate is essential for international travel to affected regions.
Who Needs Careful Consideration
The yellow fever vaccine decision can be more complex for:
- People aged over 60 years
- Those with certain health conditions
- Individuals with compromised immune systems
In these cases, a detailed assessment of your medical history is required before the vaccine can be given.
If You’re a New Patient
If you normally attend another practice but wish to see one of our doctors for a yellow fever vaccine (or a broader travel medicine consultation), please contact our reception team. We’ll guide you on how to have a summary of your medical history available before your appointment.
Before Your Appointment
- Book at least 6–8 weeks before departure
- Bring your passport and a copy of your medical history
- Let us know if you’d like a full travel medicine consult at the same time
Frequently Asked Questions
Your Questions Answered
Is Westside Medical Centre an accredited Yellow Fever vaccination centre?
Yes. Westside Medical Centre is a NSW Government Accredited Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre and can provide Yellow Fever immunisation for eligible travellers.
When should I get my Yellow Fever vaccine before travelling?
You should receive your Yellow Fever vaccine at least 14 days before entering a Yellow Fever risk area. This allows enough time for the vaccine to take full effect and provide protection for the duration of your trip.
Do I receive an official Yellow Fever vaccination certificate?
Yes. Westside Medical Centre will provide an official World Health Organisation (WHO) – accredited Yellow Fever vaccination certificate after your immunisation. This certificate is required for entry into many countries with Yellow Fever risk.
Can the Yellow Fever vaccine be given with other travel vaccines?
Yes. The Yellow Fever vaccine can be given at the same time as most other travel vaccines. However, other live vaccines should be avoided for 30 days after receiving the Yellow Fever vaccine. Your GP will advise you on the safest timing based on your travel plans and medical history.
How long does Yellow Fever immunity last?
A single dose of the Yellow Fever vaccine provides lifelong immunity for most people. No booster dose is routinely required.
