Fees at Westside Medical Centre
We have included information below on our fees for the most common services that the doctors at Westside Medical Centre provide. Whilst these fees apply in most instances, it is important to note that many of the doctors at WMC are independent practitioners and as such may set their own fees for certain consultation or procedure types.
If your doctor's fees are going to differ from what is listed below, they will discuss this with you prior to proceeding with the proposed care.
You can download a copy of our schedule of common fees here.
Medicare Safety Nets
We strongly encourage all patients to familiarise themselves with Medicare Safety Nets, which can significantly limit your out of pocket costs over the course of a calendar year. https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/medicare-safety-nets
By ensuring your bank account details are registered with Medicare online, your Medicare rebate will be returned to your account within 24 hours of paying your fee at WMC.
Chronic Disease Management Consultations
Chronic disease management consultations will continue to be bulk-billed for all patients.
This includes yearly care plans, 3-6 monthly care plan reviews, and annual health assessments.
For patients with chronic (ongoing) conditions, regular and planned chronic disease review appointments are the best way for us to comprehensively manage your health care needs, and we encourage all eligible patients to make use of them.
Procedures
Fees for procedures can range from $75.40 - $311.20 in total, but most have a standard gap of $53.50 for all patients.
This includes biopsies, skin lesion excisions, venesection, and treatment of wounds that need repair, haematomas, abscesses, ingrown toenails, procedures for contraception and most other procedures that we perform regularly.
Procedures which will have a different gap fee are listed below
- Cryotherapy of more than 10 pre-malignant lesions (actinic keratoses/sunspots) will attract a gap fee of $21.40
- Cryotherapy for other reasons, or less than 10 lesions, will attract a standard gap of $21.40, and a concession gap of $10.70
- Iron infusions will be charged a gap of $64.20 in addition to the consultation fee
Immunisations
Most services relating to immunisations will continue to be bulk-billed
- Childhood immunisation appointments
- Any appointment booked primarily with a nurse for the administration of a vaccine which has been pre-arranged with your doctor
- An appointment that is part of an organised immunisation clinic (like a flu or Covid vaccine), whether booked with a doctor or a nurse
Some immunisation services do attract additional fees
- Any complex discussion of immunisation that requires in-depth consultation with your doctor
- The cost of any vaccine not covered on the National Immunisation Program
- Q fever skin test to assess suitability for immunisation
Home Visits
We do provide home visits, but in most instances we find that care is best provided at the surgery. Here we have the right infrastructure, staffing and equipment to provide the most effective medical care. In some instances your doctor may offer a home visit if they feel it is best suited to your individual situation.
After Hours
WMC provides after hours care for times when the surgery isn't open. This service is operated by a variety of the doctors who normally practice at Westside according to a roster system. The on-call doctor will be able to access the medical records that your usual GP keeps.
The phone service fee will be $110.
If the doctor deems it necessary to see you out of hours, the minimum call-out fee will be $270.
Fees for visits at the surgery after hours are as below.
